** Job Fairs **
Career or Job fairs can occur in several forums. Many are on-campus recruitment tools for entry level positions while others, often in hotels, may be for more experienced workers. They all represent challenges and opportunities to be addressed. In a tough job market and with just a modicum of publicity, a job fair can be a crowded scene, creating challenges to making meaningful impressions. In these cases, a well-crafted elevator speech along with a positive personality is important. In a situation where there is more time for one-on-one with recruiters, your interactive behavior still needs to be as well-tuned as if the interview were a job interview. You want to not have your appearance or style be memorable in a negative or distracting way; you want to appear comfortable and relaxed but still on point with compelling stories of performance should the conversation veer that way; and you certainly want to appear interested in the company of the recruiter you're talking too. Leaving a resume is certainly desired, but leaving a positive impression is much more valuable if continued dialogue with that company is desired.
