This is a method of using a team of job-seekers to improve job search effectiveness pioneered by Orville
Pierson of Lee Hecht Harrison, a leading outplacement/career management firm. It is primarily designed to
keep job seekers productive in doing the activities necessary to surface job opportunities. Another benefit is to
have a group with which to share ideas and experiences with in the job search to avoid making mistakes of
others as well as leveraging useful tips. It is not intended to act as an emotional support group.
This method is also largely sponsored by outplacement firms that often assist large companies when force reductions and layoffs are necessary. If you don't have access to outplacement services, you may have to form your own job search work team. Sometimes churches offer or help organize such teams. Where possible, a JSWT is best formed with people of similar professional levels and backgrounds.
The How-to-do-it section below provides specific guidelines and tools for operating a Job Search Work Team. Additionally, a pre-formatted, ready-to-use tracking tool is available in the section on "Managing the Process", topic # 6, Productivity Log, so you don't have to recreate formats.
